The ultimate gap year adventure,
“Sailing around the world” the entire trip will take about 450 days.
Safety of sailing in a fleet, environment friendly, a real once in a life time adventure, taking place over 15 months and covering 30,000 nautical miles.
Our route is partially determined by winds and weather, and partly determined by our desires to see certain places. Sailing around the world takes the trade wind route which is from east to west. The trade winds are favourable winds for a sailing vessel (generally in the same direction you want to go). These winds are also generally favorable speeds and fewer storms if you go during the right times of the year.
Due to the hazard of piracy in the Arabian sea, Somalia and the gulf of Aden, we decided to avoid that area. We will go around the Cape of Good Hope.
The route takes us from Saint Lucia to Columbia the Panama Canal and across the Pacific to end up in Australia. Then it takes us to north of Australia across Indonesia and into the Indian Ocean to South Africa. From there we sail to Brazil and back to the Caribbean. After 15 months and 30.000nm of adventure we will arrive in Saint Lucia where everything begone.
Safety is very important for us. All boats are equipped with the latest technology safety gear electronics and communication equipment. The Sailing Around The World is a mix of cruising, exploring and social engagement. As a responsible traveller we take care of the environment and the local economies.
We will sail in a fleet of 5 boats, a mixture of Hanse 575, 675 and Bavaria 50 cruisers. Our experienced skippers will guide you when you need it and you will be free when you want to be. We will not be holding your hand and we are not a sailing school, but we are ready to assist when you need it.

Blue Ocean Sailing Nr1 offers a fully equipped office with worldwide phone and internet access on the Hanse 675. At request we can expand this offer to other boats.
We use VSAT as our main phone and internet connection. As a backup we have a Inmarsat satellite connection. Both systems work worldwide. During our explorations on land we use the Iridium handheld satellite phones.
Safety is very important for us. All boats are equipped with the latest technology safety gear electronics and communication equipment. During our trip we will travel through the most remote places on earth, therefore we need to be self-supporting. Every boat will carry his share in the huge amount of spare parts necessary to maintenance and repair the boats. On every boat you will find a extended medical kit and emergency gear.
At your service a fleet doctor, dentist and mechanic to keep us and the boats in a good condition.
